A few months ago, Warhammer: Vermintide 2 developer Fatshark unveiled the game’s first major expansion titled Winds of Magic. Now, Fatshark has narrowed down the release window for Winds of Magic, confirming its arrival in August. The studio also released a new cinematic trailer to accompany the release window announcement.
Warhammer: Vermintide 2 Winds of Magic Release Window
Interestingly enough, Winds of Magic won’t add any new maps or missions to Warhammer: Vermintide 2’s current selection. Instead, the expansion will spruce things up with a unique “Weaves” feature which enhances existing missions. There will be eight Weaves in total, and they can be combined to produce unique gameplay modifiers and conditions. In fact, Fatshark claims that the Weaves will add a near-endless amount of replayability to Vermintide 2’s existing gameplay offerings.
Of course, Weaves are far from the only new feature coming in the Winds of Magic expansion. The base Warhammer: Vermintide 2 experience will also be bolstered by a brand new enemy faction: The Beastmen. According to Warhammer lore, Beastmen are twisted hybrids of man and animal born from the corrupting influence of chaos magic. The included cinematic trailer offers a surprisingly tragic glimpse into the Beastmens’ tumultuous way of life. It also hints at a potential Beastmen leader whom Warhammer: Vermintide 2 players must eventually challenge.
New Features
Rounding out Warhammer: Vermintide 2’s Winds of Magic expansion are several quality-of-life features. Said features include Weave-specific leaderboards and new weapon types for all existing heroes. Since Weave playlists won’t be randomized, the leaderboards will show which players can best master each unique Weave makeup. As for the new weapon types, Fatshark is keeping most of them under wraps for now. However, every hero will get a new weapon, and Bardin Goreksson’s new weapon has been confirmed to be throwing axes.
A specific release date for Warhammer: Vermintide 2’s Winds of Magic expansion hasn’t been announced as of this writing. August is only a few months away, though, so players won’t have to wait long. The Winds of Magic expansion also doesn’t yet have a set price point. Given the $8 price of smaller Vermintide 2 DLC packs though, our guess is it will cost $15-30 dollars.
