Earlier on Monday, ESPN revealed the first member of the Madden 21’s 99 Club with quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Now we’ve learned he will be the only one with that rating amongst Madden 21 QB ratings. However, a few star playmakers may not be too far off in terms of the top 10 ratings list.
Wilson, Jackson near the top of Madden 21 QB ratings
While Madden 20 cover star Patrick Mahomes is the only 99-rated quarterback, a few others are within reach of that perfect OVR in the game. Coming in at second with a 97 OVR is the Seattle Seahawks’ Russell Wilson. Just after him, is the new Madden 21 cover star Lamar Jackson with a 94 OVR. That gives LJ8 some room for improvement in the upcoming NFL season, should it go forth.
Rounding out the top five are New Orleans Saints record-setter Drew Brees and the brand new Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Mr. Tom Brady. In addition to Mahomes and Jackson, several other next-generation star QBs are also in the top 10. They are the Cowboys’ Dak Prescott and the Texans’ Deshaun Watson.
The debates are obviously raging on with this latest Madden 21 QB ratings release. Luckily, EA didn’t surprise everyone by giving rookie QB Joe Burrow a top 10 rating, as he’ll be a 76 OVR at the start of the new game.
However, there are those who question why veterans such as the Detroit Lions’ Matthew Stafford or Minnesota Vikings’ Kirk Cousins aren’t ranked in that top 10. Keep in mind, ratings can fluctuate based on how the players perform, so that will dictate their spots as the new season arrives.
Which quarterbacks have the best attributes?
While the full Madden 21 QB ratings aren’t available yet, a few other interesting reveals arrived. Patrick Mahomes, who had a Bazooka Superstar X-Factor with Madden 20, doesn’t have the best Throw Power amongst QBs. That honor goes to the Buffalo Bills’ Josh Allen with a perfect 99. The aforementioned Matthew Stafford ranks third in a tie with the Packers’ Aaron Rodgers.
This year’s cover star Lamar Jackson turned heads with his NFL MVP season in 2019 which included him showing just how quick he is as a mobile QB. He ultimately was crowned faster than Michael Vick in terms of his speed rating in the Madden game. He’ll lead all quarterbacks in that category this year as he starts out at 96 for Speed.
Last year’s No. 1 draft pick Kyler Murray of the Arizona Cardinals ranks second with a 91 OVR, followed by the New Orleans Saints’ Taysom Hill at 90 OVR. The Titans’ Marcus Mariota and Tyrod Taylor round out the top five.
So far that’s all we’ve seen for the Madden 21 QB ratings. However, EA has been posting updated player ratings on their website. As of this report, it’s only the rookie quarterbacks and wide receivers, but we’re expecting more players to show up in their database soon.
The new Madden game drops on August 28, 2020, for PS4, Xbox One, and Windows PCs.
