If you love sharing screenshots and clips through the PS4 Share feature, you may be wondering what role sharing is going to play on the PS5. Have no fear, as it looks like social features like sharing on the PS5 may be an even bigger deal than it is on the PS4. A new patent has turned up which discusses an exciting possible feature called “scene tagging.”
Social Features on PS5 Could Take Sharing to New Levels
If you want to take a look at the patent application, you can do so here. The “scene tagging” feature that the patent describes combines “video recordings or screenshots from within the video game” to “corresponding metadata.”
Not only is this feature supposed to make it easy to search for relevant clips and images, but it may have another considerable benefit. Supposedly, the feature “includes recreating the recorded event so that the user can participate within the same event on the user computing device.”
It is difficult to describe what this might mean with any certainty, but it sounds like we’ll be able to share save states of specific moments in our games with other users. Those users will be able to have those states and events recreated on their own devices so that they can literally live the moment, instead of just watching a recording or looking at an image. The experience will be fully immersive and interactive.
This would be a fun and engaging way to share stories about our gaming experiences. But one also imagines it would be a great training tool as well for users who are trying to learn from each other (i.e. observing FPS tactics in action and learning how to apply them). There are probably many other possibilities as well to explore if this feature becomes a reality.
