Surprise, Paladins Switch is free right now for everyone on the Nintendo Switch eShop. It’s always nice when a studio shadow drops a game when no one was expecting it, and doubly so when it’s absolutely free to download. If you have been hankering for a great Overwatch-like game to tie you over until it is, hopefully, announced for Switch, this is the game for you.
Paladins is a hero shooter where there are over 30 different heroes to choose for its first (or third) person shooting action. Each hero falls into one of four different main categories – flank, damage, tank, and support – that fulfill vastly different roles in each match. The damage dealers focus on dealing damage while the tank takes the brunt of the damage while the support keeps the tank alive and so on.
Not only does each hero fall into one of the four categories, but they each have their own unique abilities and playstyles. Some damage dealers might be built for the quick run in, shoot, and run back out while others have heavier weapons made for long range or heavy hitting. Every Champion in Paladins truly feels different and well-balanced.
Now, anyone on Switch can check out Paladins for themselves since it is free for everyone right now on the eShop. Like developer Hi-Rez Studios’ other title, Smite, only a few Champions will be available in the free version. You can either purchase the rest with real money or play the game enough to earn in-game currency to purchase them.
Paladins Switch originally release over a month ago, during the week of E3 2018. However, that was only early access then so getting in meant purchasing a Founder’s Pack with every current and future Champion included. Now, anyone who wants to check out the game can play it absolutely for free. Only time will tell if Hi-Rez Studios’ Battle Royale game, Realm Royale, will also come to Switch soon.
