Last week, Activision and Infinity Ward made a policy change when it comes to how they discuss cheating in Call of Duty: Warzone. In response to player concerns that they weren’t doing enough, they revealed how many Warzone bans they had issued so far and promised to release more consistent updates about their efforts to fight cheaters. Now, the studio has announced that they have passed 70,000 total bans issued; a massive increase in just a single week.
Over 70,000 Call of Duty: Warzone Bans and Counting
Seven days ago, when Activision and Infinity Ward first released a statement about their ongoing efforts to combat cheating in Call of Duty: Warzone, they revealed that they had permanently banned more than 50,000 accounts. Now, in the span of just one week, that figure has leapt up to 70,000; indicating that Infinity Ward is making the issue of tackling cheaters a top priority.
Like the studio’s announcement last week, this update should be well-received by players, especially those who have had the misfortune of encountering cheaters or hackers in Warzone. Fortunately, this seems to just be the start of a new focus on fighting this sort of activity. Infinity Ward has said that they are working to improve the in-game UI to help players report cheaters, for example.
This is the first update about bans which Infinity Ward has released since last week. However, players should expect these to become more commonplace. After all, the studio said that they plan to provide; “a regular count on the latest number of bans issued,” and this appears to be that. As such, the current 70,000 figure is likely to rise in the coming weeks. It’s not totally clear how Infinity Ward was able to ban 20,000 accounts in a single week. However, it could indicate that the studio has recently implemented a more robust system for identifying cheating accounts.
