What you people are doing with the most iconic FPS video game ever made is always incredible and brilliant. When some fans are creating various DOOM mods while waiting for DOOM Eternal, others are experimenting with something completely different. What do you think DOOM 3 will be like if you run it on Windows 98 and with a 12MB graphics card?
LoweSpecgamer’s current obsession is to run various games on the oldest hardware and settings possible to see if they can actually support them and how they look. But, Lazy Game Reviews tried to play DOOM 3 on a PC running Windows 98 and a 12MB Voodoo 2 graphics card to show us exactly how the game performs. Have a look for yourselves and see the awesomeness you would not expect:
Lazy Game Reviews tells us that playing DOOM 3 on an older system like Windows 98 is difficult. Since DOOM 3 is a new game compared to DOOM and DOOM II, it is better to run it on Windows XP with a 128MB graphics card. If you want to try it out on Windows 98, you will have to make some adjustments if you want the game to run. You will have to remove the kitchen sink, set the graphics settings to minimum, and adjust the texture sizes to custom.
However, even if you do all of the above, the game is still nothing compared to the original DOOM 3. It will be hard for you to play it since it’s missing the graphics and textures needed for it to run smoothly and showcase the entire strength of its newer technology.
LGR made this Potato Patch in case you wanted to try it out yourselves. If you are interested in seeing what it feels like to play DOOM 3 on Windows 98, you can find the installation and download instructions here.
