Everybody knows that Gamestop has been going through a very rough period for some time. However, it seems like things are looking up for the company as of late. In fact, they are taking a new and unprecedented business model. This new business model also looks to make an incursion in the world of eSports.
Gamestop Partners Up with eSports Organizations
Gamestop made the announcement a few days ago. They went into a partnership with three different eSports organizations. Such organizations are the Houston Outlaws, Envy Gaming, and Optic Gaming. The partnership deal extends to the creation of merchandise. Not only that, but there also will be “gaming clinics” for amateur players.
The purpose of this partnership is to let Gamestop become the “local neighborhood hub for amateur eSports.” The company intends to offer different perks for amateur eSports players. Such perks include viewing parties, and opportunities to meet eSports pro players.
Back in January of this year, people were wondering whether or not Gamestop would come back from the brink. The company was in a very tough financial spot and couldn’t find a suitable deal. Shortly after, the retailer announced that it was no longer going to look for any sort of sale offer.
Well, it seems like we know why Gamestop stopped looking for offers now. However, it should be mentioned that Gamestop has a long way to go as of now. On the other hand, maybe the partnered eSports organizations will help them get on the right track.
