You’ll recall the travesty back in May when nobody was happy with the PS Plus free games. Well, Sony announced the July 2020 free games the other day, and gamers are also disappointed with the July 2020 PS Plus free games.
Why Are Gamers Disappointed With the July 2020 PS Plus Free Games?
The PS Plus free games for July 2020 include Rise of the Tomb Raider, NBA 2K20 and an extra game for those with a compatible smartphone called Erica.
What is the issue? Well, it really has nothing to do with Rise of the Tomb Raider or Erica. It has to do with two things: NBA 2K20 and the fact that this is the 10th anniversary of PlayStation Plus.
For one thing, NBA 2K20 was just recently on sale for very cheap, and a lot of gamers already bought it for a few dollars. Those who did so do not need the game for free now, and many of those who didn’t passed it over because they didn’t want it. Either way, it isn’t much of a giveaway to offer something for free which you just sold for almost-free. Obviously it is good for those who simply missed the sale, but in general, it is an underwhelming freebie.
And then there is the matter of this being the 10th anniversary of the service. That being the case, one would expect Sony to pull out all the stops for July. And there are some extras, like Erica and an upcoming free PS4 theme for subscribers. But the June 2020 selection of games was more exciting to a lot of people. So basically, this just is like a regular month, and not even a great one.
Maybe Sony will think to surprise us with something cool later in the month? We’re not holding our breaths. But we’ll keep you posted about any further developments in our PlayStation news.
