Grand Theft Auto 5 is not just a video game which has sold 95 million copies since launch, it’s also a tool for creative minds to work at. We’ve seen the extent of the features such as Director Mode, the Rockstar Editor and PC mods to the game to make it more cinematic (or should we say snapmatic) for players to make a film, video, photo and even a music video.
Whole communities exist around the creation of snapmatics, short films, posters and other media made entirely in-game using Grand Theft Auto 5 as a tool, but we have never seen a real-world celebrity/artist use the game for an actual project, until now.
World renowned DJ Solomun has published his new track “Customer is King” alongside a brand new music video which is impressively filmed and designed entirely in Grand Theft Auto 5.
Solomun is a DJ in the brand new After Hours update for Grand Theft Auto Online, alongside Tale of Us which released yesterday, Dixon and The Black Madonna.
“[W]atch Solomun as he puts in a hard day’s work making deliveries across Los Santos while trying not to get caught up in the everyday chaos of the city. Shot entirely inside the world of [Grand Theft Auto 5], this is also the first time a real world artist has debuted new music via their own story inside the [Grand Theft Auto] universe.”
This is the first time that a real world artist has filmed a music video inside Grand Theft Auto 5, most likely in partnership with Rockstar – Tale of Us has a similar partnership which allows them to debut their new album on the brand new Los Santos Underground Radio station that was added alongside brand new vehicles and the DJ duo themselves.
You can watch the video above, and play the brand new update right now. If you play before August 6, you can use Grand Theft Auto Online without a PlayStation Plus subscription needed.
