What to Expect in Modern Warfare’s New Team Defender Mode

Season 4 is now in full-swing, and following the recent Season 4 Reloaded patch, Infinity Ward has added another new game mode to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. This time, that mode is ‘Team Defender,’ which features a twist on the standard format of Capture the Flag.

The Modern Warfare Team Defender Game Mode

Team Defender, the newest mode to come to Modern Warfare, may not be the most revolutionary mode, but it is certainly a new take on a classic. At its core, Team Defender is a flag-capture mode, but with a few twists of its own. As usual for an objective game mode, there are two teams, each competing to capture a flag. However, instead of the teams competing to capture one another’s flags, they compete over a single one.

New Modern Warfare Team Defender Game Mode

Every second that a member of your team holds the flag, your team earns points. As a result, once a player seizes the flag, defending that carrier becomes their teammates’ top priority. This is especially pertinent since the other team can score bonus points for downing an enemy flag-carrier! This bonus mechanic means that teams can quickly rack up points if the flag changes hands several times in quick succession.

As teams simply need to defend their carrier, rather than a specific objective site, Team Defender allows for more mobile defensive strategies than many other objective game modes. Players don’t necessarily need to hunker down in this mode. (Although hunkering down in a defensive position around your flag carrier may not be a bad idea on some maps.) Regardless, it’s worth bearing in mind the value of mobility, especially if your team can work together as a group. For attackers, of course, it may be worth downing the carrier even if you can’t retrieve the flag. After all, you’ll earn points simply for taking them down.
