With Destiny 2’s Warmind DLC up and running, Bungie has now shared an updated content roadmap which covers all of the new features that will be added to the game between now and September. Among the planned content additions are prestige modes for both of Destiny 2’s raid lairs, a brand new seasonal event, and what appears to be a public PvP test server.
According to the roadmap, which you can see courtesy of a new post on Bungie’s website, Destiny 2 will be receiving an update on May 29 that will introduce changes to Exotic armor pieces, make improvements to the Faction Rallies event type, and add in a brand new feature called Crucible Labs. For now, specific details on what Crucible Labs is and how it will function are being kept under wraps, but Bungie’s design lead Derek Carroll offered a brief preview:
“I can already hear you asking “What is Crucible Labs?” and I’m glad you want to know more. Update 1.2.1 will include a new feature intended to give you a peek behind the scenes and a louder voice in our creative process. Crucible Labs will give every player of Destiny 2 access to experimental PvP content. We’ll then have a chance to solicit your feedback to guide our final iterations. You’ll learn more about Labs before launch. For today, with it making an appearance on the Roadmap, I wanted to give you a preview of our goals. More to come on this soon.”
While Carroll didn’t say it outright, it sounds like Crucible Labs will function as a sort of public test server that’s focused specifically for PvP content. Players will likely be able to try out new Crucible game modes and modifiers (and maybe even new maps), and then help to decide whether or not they get added into the game proper.
After the May 29 update, another update is slated for July, and that second update will include a new ‘Solstice of Heroes’ seasonal event, the return of bounties (a staple feature from the original Destiny), prestige modes for the two Leviathan raid lairs, and more.
Lastly, September will mark the beginning of Destiny 2’s Year 2 content run, and along with a new DLC expansion, September will mark the arrival of gameplay features like gear collections, weapon slot changes, and new as-yet-revealed game modes (amongst other things).
