Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is right around the corner, so you might want to play as much of the game series as you possibly can while waiting for the game to release so you’re prepared to totally own everyone you come into contact with later. Microsoft is facilitating that, with the announcement from Microsoft’s Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb (Director of Programming for Xbox Live) today that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is now backwards compatible on Xbox One.
The shooter from 2011 originally debuted on Xbox 360, and now you can give it a try so you can use it to prepare for the long nights about to be spent in Black Ops 4. You know it’s only a matter of time before you shut yourself in your room and jump online, so may as well train with the older titles, right?
Modern Warfare 3 was an excellent game in its own right, following soldiers as they went on a hunt for a Russian terrorist on a spree of attacks throughout Europe, with the same signature multiplayer and fantastic gunplay the Call of Duty games are known for. If you have a copy, you can just pop it into the Xbox One and play, but if you don’t have a physical copy, you can grab it for $29.99 via the Microsoft Store. It’s also currently part of the Deals with Gold sale so you can get it for $14.99 if you’re an Xbox Live Gold member. Honestly, though, you’d be better served going to GameStop and picking it up for free.
However you slice it, it’s good to see all the classic Call of Duty games getting their fair due on the system, with remastered versions and backwards compatible options. It’s like we never had to say goodbye to various iterations in the series, and that’s great news for everyone.
