For the first time ever, games from the Borderlands franchise are now available on a Nintendo console. Following the announcement earlier this year, the Borderlands Legendary Collection – a bundle containing the first three Borderlands games – is now available on the Nintendo Switch.
The Borderlands Legendary Collection on Switch
Gearbox first announced that the Borderlands Legendary Collection would be coming to the Nintendo Switch around two months ago, during one of the more recent Nintendo Direct presentations. At the time, the announcement coincided with that of the Guns, Love, and Tentacles DLC for Borderlands 3; a game which is unlikely to come to the Switch itself. (Borderlands 3 is likely too large to fit on the Nintendo Switch without a graphical downgrade. However, it’s worth noting that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has established a precedent for this.)
The Borderlands Legendary Collection is one of two major bundles containing older Borderlands titles. (The other being Borderlands: The Handsome Collection, which is currently available for free on the Epic Games Store, as it happens.) While the Handsome Collection contains Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, the Legendary Collection also contains the original Borderlands. Along with all three of the older Borderlands titles, the Collection also features all of their respective DLC and expansions.
This is certainly no small amount of content. Not only do Switch users get the full three games, but 4 add-ons for Borderlands, 4 for the Pre-Sequel, and 14 for Borderlands 2. Furthermore, the Collection features four-player co-op on the Switch. In fact, the game also offers two-player split-screen co-op if the Switch is in its docked mode. Finally, the Legendary Collection on Switch actually boasts a few new features not available on other platforms. Namely, Gearbox has apparently developed several motion controls specifically for the Switch. Among other things, these controls will reportedly help players to “line up headshots,” according to Gearbox.
