As you may already know, a lot of specialists from Black Ops 3 didn’t make it into the sequel. But that being said there is still quite the roster of specialists to choose from in Black Ops 4. So here we will take a look at the specialists available in Black Ops 4 and their unique abilities.
CALL OF DUTY BLACK OPS 4 SPECIALIST: AJAX
Area Clearance
Ajax has more of a tank role in the game and his specialist ability is his riot shield which he can plonk down and use for increased defense.
In addition to his shield, he also comes equipped with special issue 9-Bang stun grenades. He’s very useful for breaching in the objective modes and his shield makes most of his body protected from enemy fire.
CALL OF DUTY BLACK OPS 4 SPECIALIST: BATTERY
Demolitions
Battery may be familiar to those who played Black Ops 3 and brings her signature weapon into Black Ops 3, her trusty War Machine, a grenade launcher that can rain down hell on the enemy and clear enemy strongholds.
While she doesn’t retain her kinetic shield from Black Ops 3 she does come with special issue Cluster grenades that upon detonation spread into multiple smaller grenades and can also be helpful in clearing out an area.
CALL OF DUTY BLACK OPS 4 SPECIALIST: CRASH
Team Support
If support is your thing (and admittedly it might be), then Crash is a good choice for a specialist. He can give health buffs to the team using the TAK-5. The TAK-5 heals and boosts max HP and also clears burns.
In addition he can drop an assault pack to resupply ammo and accelerate the earning of Scorestreaks. Overall Crash can be invaluable to the team if his buffs are timed correctly.
CALL OF DUTY BLACK OPS 4 SPECIALIST: FIREBREAK
Area Denial
Firebreak became infamous in Black Ops 3 due to his somewhat overpowered flamethrower (I swear someone broke a keyboard after repeatedly losing to him). He makes a return in Black Ops 4, still wielding his signature Purifier. The Purifier still has quite the range for a flamethrower and is exceptionally efficient at killing enemies since it burns them and thus prevents healing.
He comes equipped with a reactor core that when placed near enemies will burn them through walls with deadly radiation. If setting people on fire and losing friends quickly is your cup of tea, then Firebreak may be your man.
CALL OF DUTY BLACK OPS 4 SPECIALIST: NOMAD
Ambush Tactics
Some players may enjoy to take their enemies by surprise. For that role, Nomad may be the choice for you. Equipped with mesh mines, he can create traps that your enemies may not see until it’s too late. By connecting multiple mines you create essentially a laser tripwire that when crossed will blow up all mines in the connection.
He can also send out his trust K9 companion, a heavily armored attack dog that will search the nearby area and attack any enemies in the vicinity.
CALL OF DUTY BLACK OPS 4 SPECIALIST: PROPHET
Remote Disruption
Prophet makes a return from Black Ops 3 with his trusty Tempest rifle. A high voltage rifle that incapacitates your enemies with high powered shock rounds.
While you are blasting away with your Tempest rifle you can also stun enemies using the Seeker. The Seeker rolls out and when it finds an enemy it will stun them and incapacitate them, allowing you to run up and shoot them. The Seeker is great for dealing with snipers. Unless they run around quickscoping people of course.
CALL OF DUTY BLACK OPS 4 SPECIALIST: RECON
Intel Operations
In any scenario, knowing your enemy location can be nice to prevent them from taking you by surprise. And this is where Recon comes in. Using his Vision Pulse visor, he can reveal enemy locations through walls and mark them for the team. Enemies will know they are marked by a red outline appearing on their body, so act fast.
He can also use his Sensor Dart gun to fire a dart that reveals enemies in a radius on the minimap and clears fog of war. Very useful in case you don’t have a UAV on hand.
CALL OF DUTY BLACK OPS 4 SPECIALIST: RUIN
Frontal Assault
While his name is likely to make you think of Gary Numan’s awesome song, that’s probably not the main reason to go with this bearded badass, here making his return from Black Ops 3.
Armed with a grapple gun, Ruin’s agility and mobility is unprecedented on the battlefield. It allows him to pull himself up to a higher plane easily or cross a large gaps in seconds. In short, it opens for a lot of shortcuts.
He also retains his signature Grav Slam ability, which creates a massive lethal shockwave. This shockwave is extremely efficient as it not only kills most enemies, but also destroys equipment. This makes Ruin a perfect choice for clearing out groups of enemies and equipment.
CALL OF DUTY BLACK OPS 4 SPECIALIST: SERAPH
Tactical Command
Of course, sometimes you want a more tactical advantage, in which case Seraph from Black Ops 3 could be a good choice. Being one of only two females together with Battery, she holds her own in battle using her Annihilator revolver. The Annihilator (which sounds like a badass heavy metal band name for the record) has a guaranteed one shot kill from all distances. It provides excellent ADS accuracy, and can kill multiple enemies in one shot. It has a high skill ceiling though which requires some practice before you can use it efficiently.
She comes with a special issue TAC-Deploy as well, a device which lets you and your team spawn at the location of the deploy. This is highly useful for objective modes where you need to take over an objective for instance, and TDM modes where you might want to spawn away from the battle. In other words, TAC-Deploy gives you some much needed control over where you and your friends spawn. It is very easily destroyed however, so keeping it out of reach for the enemy is advisable.
CALL OF DUTY BLACK OPS 4 SPECIALIST: TORQUE
Path Blocking
Torque (presumably unrelated to Mr. Torque from Borderlands 2), like Crash is more of a supportive class and can help bolster defenses by putting down razor wire. The razor wire can be placed in advantageous locations where it will hinder the enemy and also alert you to their presence.
He can also plop down a barricade that offers cover. This is great for fortifying key positions and objectives. The barricade also sends out a field of radiation in front of it, giving some easy kills if anyone comes near it.
And that about covers it. Did you find any favorite yet? Regardless, in Black Ops 4, team play is key to staying alive and the abilities of the different specialists can synergize in a lot of ways, allowing for some great tactical play.
Or you could just pick Battery, blow sh#t up and call it a day. That’s fine too.
