As may have become apparent from my review of Call Of Duty: Black Ops 4, the game is severely lacking in content at the moment. Apparently Activision seems to finally have decided to remedy this with the addition of the Black Market.
Call Of Duty: Black Ops 4 – Black Market
The service, which is now available on PS4 and XBox One with PC to follow on Friday October 26th, currently only has the Contraband Stream. This progression system allows players to unlock new skins for Blackout characters, Specialists, weapons as well as gestures and tags. The system is comparable to Fortnite’s Battle Pass in that the Contraband System rewards players with loot for earning in-game experience. Each set of unlocks, called an Operation, rotate on on a seasonal basis, with new rewards every few months. The first Operation, aptly titled “First Strike” was launched last Friday on consoles.
Special events similar to what has been done in previous Call of Duty games is also going to be a thing. So with the launch of the Black Market, Halloween themed unlocks will be available for a short time. Treyarch has said they will do similar themed content releases in the future.
Another new addition to the Black Market is Blackjack’s Shop. This will allow players to purchase specific items that change on a weekly basis. It will go live some time in November. And in celebration of the new progression system, a double XP weekend is currently held. It might be a chance to level up before the new content launches on PC this friday.
In my opinion the Black Market is a very welcome addition. Hopefully it will add a lot of new much needed content to the game. The progression system seems interesting and a welcome change from the loot boxes of the previous games. And despite what my personal opinion is, Black Ops 4 has broken sales records. Hopefully the future is brighter for this shooter than its beginning.
