After more than a year of post-launch content releases, active development on Battlefield V has come to an end. While the game may continue to get the occasional balancing or bug-fixing patch, it won’t be getting any new content, curtailing plans for Battlefield V ‘Year 2‘. However, Battlefield fans may still have good things to look forward to, according to a recent teaser about Battlefield 6.
Looking Ahead to Battlefield 6
“Our studios are taking their crazy ambitious ideas and making them real,” recently stated EA studio boss Laura Miele, speaking of EA’s plans for next-gen development; “Every console generation DICE sets the bar for excellence in audio and visual presentation. We are creating epic battles at a scale and fidelity unlike anything you’ve experienced before.”
This comes after the reveal of what is presumably work-in-progress footage of Battlefield 6 during EA Play. EA didn’t state whether the footage came from Battlefield 6 specifically, but that does seem the most likely possibility. (Certainly, the few glimpses we got call to mind the look of the Battlefield series.) This brief clip didn’t show much of note, of course; the game looks to still be in early development. However, Battlefield fans may be able to look forward to a next-gen Battlefield 6 being announced sometime next year.
At present, it’s unknown what DICE have planned for Battlefield 6. The last two games in the series have focused on the first and second World Wars, respectively. From there, DICE could choose to move further forward in time, perhaps to the Vietnam War. However, with reports indicating that the upcoming Call of Duty 2020 title will be set at least partially in Vietnam, it’s possible that DICE may choose to avoid the same setting. For now, fans will most likely need to wait a while. With other big titles due to launch in the next 3-4 months, EA is unlikely to make any major announcements soon, especially so soon after EA Play. For now, fans will have to wait and see what the future holds for Battlefield 6.
