EA is ramping up its promotion efforts for Battlefield V’s release far ahead of time, and making sure folks are still interested in the older entries in the series at the same time. That’s why both Battlefield 1’s Turning Tides DLC and Battlefield 4’s Second Assault expansion are both free right now for players on Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
The Turning Tides DLC for Battlefield 1 introduced naval battles as well as beach landings, as well as a swath of new content in the form of four multiplayer maps, a new Operation, the Infiltrator Elite Class, and the Royal Marines faction for good measure.
The Second Assault expansion included a lot of new maps up for grabs, like Caspian Border, Operation Firestorm, Operation Metro, and Gulf of Oman. If you’re jonesing for some classic Battlefield fun, these are excellent and free options you can pick up if you’re trying to save some cash ahead of Battlefield V’s debut. We know how hard it can be to wait, too, so hopefully these will tide you over.
Right now, the promotion is only available for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 owners, so if you’re a PC fan you may have to end up waiting a short time for the Origin store to update. This could be any day now, but typically the PC versions of the games do get these promotions, so it’d be a bit weird if they didn’t come to PC.
The promotion should last for about a week, so that should give you plenty of time to play around with the older expansions and DLC you may have missed out on.
Meanwhile, you can get back to waiting for Battlefield V with bated breath, as there’s a whole lot going on in that game that we still don’t know very much about. All we know right now though for sure, however, is how much we want to check out that new Battle Royale mode.
