Cyberpunk 2077 has been turning heads every time new footage or any visual aspect of the game is shared, but it’s impressive in all the right ways aside from being aesthetically pleasing, as well. CD Projekt RED’s newest game has been siphoning praise from just about every journalist and fan to give it a nod, and rightly so, with plenty of cool features to offer. It looks absolutely excellent. But its excellence has also lead players to wonder when we might see the game out in the wild, and whether or not it’s going to be able to run on our current-gen consoles. It’s possible we may have to wait even longer to give it a try.
According to CD Projekt RED CEO Marcin Iwinski during an interview with Games Industry, Cyberpunk 2077 is running on the next generation of the company’s proprietary engine, and the team is working to “maximize” the game for the Xbox One X and PlayStation 4 Pro right now. With that in mind, however, it looks like Iwinski states that it’s too early to say what the team is going to be able to pull off.
“It’s running on a high-spec PC,” Iwinski said of the demo shown off to press. “It’s the next generation of our own proprietary engine – and speaking frankly, we’re still working on the rendering so I hope we can get more [out of it]. The current gen consoles are really powerful, especially talking about Xbox One X and PS4 Pro. We’ll do our best to maximize for those, but it’s too early to say exactly what we can achieve – and the PC version will always be above that, because it’s constantly upgraded and improved in terms of the hardware we can gain acccess to. But it should look great on current consoles.”
We still have no idea about a potential release date, of course, but Cyberpunk 2077 is going to be a smash hit, no doubt, when it does make its debut.
