After a brief postponement in solidarity with the recent protests, the Battlefield V Summer Update has arrived. This update will be the last of its kind which the game receives. Although it will still get patches, it will no longer be getting any new content. This final update brought several new maps, weapons, and vehicles, though it perhaps isn’t quite a full Tides of War Chapter.
New Content in the Battlefield V Summer Update
The biggest new addition in the Battlefield V Summer Update is that of several new maps. The first of these is Al Marj Encampment, an infantry-only map set in a Libyan town. It is one of the only non-Pacific maps which features US troops on the Allied side, facing off against German troops rather than the Japanese. The map focuses heavily on the Conquest game mode with alternate 4- and 5-flag setups.
While not a new map per se, the Summer Update also significantly expands the Provence map. Originally added as an infantry-only map during Chapter 4, Provence has been heavily redesigned and expanded. As such, it now features vehicles and the option to play both Breakthrough and Conquest. Like Al-Marj, it also now features US troops on the Allied side. In fact, the update also swaps the British troops on Panzerstorm and Twisted Steel with US troops.
When it comes to new gear, the Summer Update adds a range of more unusual weaponry. All of these new weapons will be available simply as login rewards during the first few weeks after the update. If you miss them during this period, they’ll then be available through the Company.
- Assault: The Assault class is getting the M1941 Johnson firearm, as well as the Pistol Flamethrower as a new gadget.
- Medic: In this update, the Medic will get the new Welgun firearm.
- Recon: Recon is getting both the M3 Infrared and K31 as new weapons, alongside the Doppel-Schuss flare gun and RMN 50 Grenade Launcher gadgets.
- Support: The Support is getting access to the Sjögren Shotgun and the Chauchat firearms, plus the Kampfpistole and Shaped Charge gadgets.
- All Classes: The PPK/PPK Suppressed, M1911 Suppressed, and Welrod will be available for use by all classes, alongside the Demolition Grenade, Firecracker Grenade, and Type 99 Mine.
Finally, the Summer Update is bringing a handful of new vehicles. On land, these include the M8 Greyhound and Puma Armoured Car. However, the focus is really on aircraft, as the update introduces four new planes and rebalances for some existing aircraft. The new additions are the A-20 Bomber, P-70 Night Fighter, P-51D Fighter Plane, and P-51K Fighter Plane.
