With huge numbers of players expressing their concerns about Call of Duty: Warzone cheaters online, Activision has now issued a statement addressing the issue. Not only do they make clear their zero tolerance policy for cheating, but they also offer players a few assurances of what they are currently doing to combat the problem. Given that the game now has over 30 million players, cheating is a problem that requires serious attention.
What Activision’s Doing to Punish Call of Duty: Warzone Cheaters
“We take all forms of cheating very seriously,” explain Activision; “maintaining a level and fair playing field for everyone is among our highest priorities. This is an area we have been working on heavily, but it isn’t always something we discuss publicly.”
Activision went on to reveal that, not only have they been enforcing account bans since Warzone’s release, but they have permanently banned more than 50,000 accounts thus far. According to the company, they have security staff monitoring the game 24/7 to investigate and identify potential cheaters. However, they apparently feel that their current system for reporting cheaters and hackers isn’t perfect. “We’re working to improve our in-game system for reporting potential cheating,” they explain; “Plans are underway to streamline the UI for a more seamless reporting experience.”
This update appears to be an attempt by Activision to push back against misconceptions that they aren’t doing enough to combat this particular problem. The company writes that it has plans to provide; “a regular count on the latest number of bans issued, as needed”. Certainly, most players probably had no idea that 50,000 accounts had actually been permabanned already. Indeed, actual figures could help to assuage concerns among players that robust action actually is being taken.
Unfortunately, it is the nature of online gaming that most major titles are vulnerable to cheaters. To make matters worse in this case, Call of Duty: Warzone has an incredibly large audience to keep track of; over 30 million players at the last count! Hopefully, Activision’s plans to make reporting more streamlined wins them further ground in their ongoing struggle against cheaters and hackers.
