That Cyberpunk 2077 E3 Demo Was Indeed A Real Build of the Game

It’s happened time and time again — demos and other presentations of certain games shown off at E3 2018 are unveiled as videos, or disingenuous builds of games that aren’t always representative of the final product when we see them. They show what the developers want us to see, but little of the issues and inner workings behind the scenes. That doesn’t appear to be the case for Cyberpunk 2077, as CD Projekt states that the demo it showed off at E3 2018 is indeed a working build of the game, even utilizing assets for the final product.

In a conversation with Kotaku’s Jason Schreier, CD Projekt’s co-CEO Marcin Iwinski stated that the demo was simply a real part of the gameplay, and not a part of the game created solely to be shown off at the show. That means Cyberpunk’s team weren’t splintered up to make special parts for a demo, and are all just working on the game as a whole, which is great news, especially since it looks absolutely excellent from what we’ve seen so far.

Cyberpunk 2077 Will Feature Similar Difficulty Options As Previous CD Projekt Red Games

From what I’ve heard, some companies have separate teams that work on E3 demos and stuff like that; we don’t do it this way,” Iwinski said on the Kotaku podcast. “Maybe it’s better or worse, but for us it’s a cool milestone. We obviously branch out to get it done, but building the demo is moving the whole game forward.”

It’s definitely great news for gamers and those in the industry that CD Projekt has taken this approach, especially since it doesn’t even cause the developer extra work.

“It’s surprisingly a real build, so we didn’t fake anything here,” Iwinski continued, also noting that the company had been using the very “same RED Engine” they used for The Witcher 3, but a good portion of it had been rewritten.
