How soon will the PS5 launch? We know that there is a holiday 2020 release window. But, Sony has yet to announce a release date for the console. So, when can we expect it? According to a new rumor, the launch date could be November 20, 2020. Also, the price could be $499. But, how reliable is this rumor? Let’s take a look.
What We Know About the PS5 Launch Rumor
The rumor about the PS5 launch date and price comes from a user on Twitter called @PSErebus. Here is the tweet:
The text reads, “Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) will launch PlayStation®5 (PS5™) in several countries in the holiday season of 2020 and will make PlayStation®5 (PS5™) available in North America on November 20, 2020 at a recommended retail price (RRP) of $499.”
So, what can we make of this PS5 launch rumor? Well, some news sources are saying that this user is a nobody, and that we can safely ignore what he has to say. But, we do recall that he did make at least one correct prediction in the past for the release date for The Last of Us Part 2. He also implied in a tweet last month that backwards compatibility for the PS5 may go beyond PS4, but we still don’t have any confirmation on this.
But, November 20th does seem like a reasonable guess at a release date. Waiting until December seems like it would be a mistake, since Sony would miss out on the chance to capitalize on Black Friday. As for the price, we have heard predictions all over the map in the past, so it is hard to guess at whether $499 sounds likely or not. It doesn’t seem overly high or low, however, so maybe it is a good initial guess.
Regardless, we would not count out @PSErebus automatically, even if we do not know whether he has any idea what he is talking about or not. Given his track record in the past, it is possible he knows something. But at the same time, we urge you to take this (and any other rumors) with a grain of salt, and wait for Sony to make its announcement. Keep up with all news, rumors and leaks on the PlayStation 5.
