Ever since players began to reach the endgame content of Borderlands 3, Gearbox has been starting to fine-tune and tweak the system according to player feedback. After all, this endgame content doesn’t have a direct parallel in past Borderlands games. Plus, it’s never certain how players will react to something new. As it turns out, it seems that some players aren’t big fans of the Borderlands 3 Guardian Rank. As a result, Gearbox is currently investigating whether it might be possible for players to turn it off.
The Borderlands 3 Guardian Rank System
The Borderlands 3 Guardian Rank system is a key part of the game’s endgame content, alongside Mayhem Mode. Once players reach a certain point in the game, they unlock the Guardian Rank page. Here, they can invest their skill ranks in very minor incremental bonuses to their character’s statistics. In theory, this allows a player who is satisfied with their build on the Vault Hunter’s skill trees to get additional small improvements to key areas. However, it seems as though not everybody is a fan of this addition. Or, at least, some people don’t want to have to use it.
“We have heard that some of you would like the option to turn off Guardian Rank,” writes Gearbox, in their latest patch notes; “We’re currently looking into how that can be achieved and intend to be able to provide more information in the future.”
It’s unclear what turning off Guardian Rank would mean for the game’s endgame content. In theory, players would simply invest their skill ranks elsewhere on their Vault Hunter’s main skill tree. Of course, some players may prefer a more minor benefit to their core playstyle than a larger benefit to something secondary. However, for others, disabling the system might help the game feel closer to how its predecessors worked. Whatever the case, players hoping for such an option may be in luck in the near future; you’ll have to wait and see for now.
