Gears 5 Announced at E3 2018 Along With Gears Tactics and Gears Pop
Microsoft and The Coalition dropped the news about the Xbox One Gears 5 video game yesterday during the Xbox Keynote at E3 2018. In addition, not only did we get our first look at the Gears 5 storyline after watching the trailer, but we also learned that there will be two other Gears games coming soon – Gears Tactics and Gears Pop.
The anticipation of a new Gears of War video game was growing while we were approaching E3 2018. Naturally, we thought the title would be “Gears of War 5,” but it turned out that the next sequel to the franchise has dropped “of War” from its name and it is just called Gears 5.
It was also announced that Gears 5 will come out in 2019, and the trailer – in which we got a glimpse of the main characters in the sequel – looks very promising.
Judging by the trailer, we can assume that Kait Diaz will be the star of Gears 5 along with Marcus Fenix and the rest of the Gears crew. Furthermore, the gameplay seems to be going deeper in terms of melee combat than the previous games of the series. Having said that, the story continues from where the Gears of War 4 story left off since Marcus Fenix is in the trailer as well.
As for the other two newly introduced titles, Gears Pop! is a 2019 mobile game that takes on the look of Funko Pop’s iconic figurines. Unfortunately, we do not know yet what the gameplay will be like, but Gears Pop! marks the first Gears of War game developed for mobile platforms.
On the other hand, Gears Tactics is a PC exclusive, which will bring XCOM-like tactical, isometric gameplay to the Gears universe. Its release date has not been announced but the story is set 12 years before the Gears of War game, which makes it kind of a prequel and an interesting way to find out what happened before the events of the existing Gears of War franchise.
