Gunfire Games, the studio behind Darksiders 2 and 3, has been quietly toiling away on a unique new shooter experience. Remnant: From the Ashes is a co-op third-person shooter in which players must face massive grotesque bosses and other horrors. If you ever thought Dark Souls and Left4Dead would make a good pairing, Remnant should definitively be on your radar.
Remnant: From the Ashes Teaser Trailer
During the recent E3 2019 PC Gaming Show, Gunfire Games unveiled a brand new trailer for Remnant: From the Ashes. The trailer shows off the game’s grim post-apocalyptic setting, a setting which spans Earth and other connected realms. There are also some gameplay snippets which show off the game’s standard enemies and diverse roster of boss encounters.
According to Gunfire, Remnant will blend third-person shooting and melee combat. As you can see in the below trailer’s footage, players must actively dodge enemy attacks (or suffer the painful consequences). Players can venture through Remnant’s world either alone or via co-op with up to two other players. Due to the game’s intense difficulty, Gunfire recommends bringing along buddies whenever possible.
Gunfire games CEO David Adams also mentioned Remnant’s procedural elements during the PC Gaming Show trailer debut. Speaking with PC Gamer, Adams mentioned how each mission in Remnant will be dynamically generated. The specific components (enemies, level layouts, bosses, etc.) are all hand-crafted, but how they’re put together is up to the game. As one example, Adams mentioned how one specific mission will always have a different map layout. The final boss that players face can also change even within the confines of a specific mission or scenario.
Remnant: From the Ashes will launch for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 on August 20. Those who pre-order will unlock a series of unique VIP perks, including early access starting on August 16. You can find out more (or lock in your pre-order) over at the game’s official website. In other E3 2019 news, Dishonored developer Arkane Studios is making a new game called Deathloop. Fatshark’s Warhammer: Vermintide 2, meanwhile, is getting a 4v4 versus mode experience.
