Destiny 2: How to Complete the Test of Strength Iron Banner Quest

Destiny 2’s first season 7 Iron Banner event is live, and Bungie has once again switched things up a bit. The most significant change involves how players can unlock Iron Banner armor sets. Rather than working through individual bounties, players must instead complete a multi-part quest called Test of Strength. Each completed quest step rewards a specific Iron Banner armor piece, and we’ve detailed all the steps below.

Destiny 2 Iron Banner Test of Strength Quest Steps

Destiny 2 Iron Banner Test of Strength quest steps

The Test of Strength quest is available from Lord Saladin in the Tower. The quest extends across all season 7 Iron Banner events, so if you don’t finish every step, don’t sweat it. Most of the quest steps also count progress from both you and your teammates. This means you can complete those steps pretty efficiently even if your personal performance isn’t great.

Step One

The first quest step involves garnering points merely by killing enemy players in Iron Banner. Again, teammate kills count as well, so this step shouldn’t take long. You’ll earn your Iron Banner boots for completing this step.

Step Two

For the second step, you need to earn points by capturing control zones. You earn bonus points if your team secures a Power Play (having all three zones captured at once). More points are also earned by having more teammates capture an individual zone. Completing this step awards your class’s Iron Banner gauntlets.

Step Three

This will likely be the most grueling step since it requires earning a bunch of kills using specific methods. You need to earn about 100 kills from your super, grenade, and melee ability each (so 300 kills total). The grenade kills can be the biggest pain so try to equip high-damage grenades and use grenade-boosting mods. This step awards your class’s unique class item.

Step Four

This is similar to step three, only you need to farm kills with specific weapon types. Those weapon types are auto rifles, scout rifles, fusion rifles, sniper rifles, and swords. Again, teammate kills count as well, they just award less progress than if you got the kill. For this step you’ll get your Iron Banner chest piece.

Step Five

The fifth and final step is mercifully easy when compared to steps three and four. All you need to do is earn points by completing Iron Banner matches. You’ll naturally get bonus points for winning, but every completed match guarantees at least a little progress. Completing this final step unlocks your Iron Banner helmet.
