It looks like Nintendo may have let the cat out of the bag in regard to Fortnite and its possible release on Nintendo Switch, if a system update is to be believed. That’d make one of Nintendo’s big reveals for the show leaked ahead of the show, which is disappointing for the company, but great news for Fortnite fans and anyone looking to be able to play on one of the most popular handheld consoles out there right now.

Eagle-eyed Twitter user SciresM has noticed that Nintendo went forward with an update for the game on the Nintendo Switch eShop. Previously, Nintendo did the same thing with the Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga ahead of its official announcement, so it’s not that far out of the realm of possibility that a Fortnite Switch reveal is imminent.
If Fortnite is indeed coming to Switch, it’ll be interesting to see how well it works with the new Nintendo Switch Online service, which is admittedly a little archaic when compared to the multiplayer servers on the rest of the platforms Fortnite is found on. You’ll also have to pay for the privilege to pay online with Nintendo Switch at a later date, while it’s free to play online on some of the other platforms, including PC.
If this announcement ends up being true, perhaps there will be several opportunities for intriguing crossovers between Nintendo brands and other content, though we won’t know anything about that until potential release date, after all. It would be interesting to see Mario and Luigi skins or something of that nature though, for sure.
