With Super Smash Bros. Ultimate launching this December, we don’t have much longer to wait. In a new report (via Siliconera), Smash Bros. creator Masahiro Sakurai stated that new character reveals will happen less frequently.
On More Character Reveals
Sakurai stated “we announced Isabelle in the Nintendo Direct…however it would be a mistake to think that the new character announcements will keep going [at this pace] until Smash Bros. releases. We may have been a little trigger-happy so we’ll be living modestly from here on out”.
This news from Sakurai isn’t surprising. Smash Bros. Ultimate was announced back in March and we’ve gotten so much news about it. Having a slow down in character reveals makes sense and news in general is expected. Besides character reveals, there’s also a new mode that was teased at the end of the Smash Bros. Direct. More characters could be added as DLC in the future like Nintendo did with the Wii U and 3DS versions.
On the Game Being Finished
Next up, in regards to the game going gold, Sakurai said: “It’ll be complete in just a little longer…or so we expect”. A game going gold means it’s finished and ready to be shipped out. This comes a month or so before release. With games being what they are today, a game is never truly done. It’s likely Nintendo will update the game with patches, bug fixes, and more DLC.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate launches on Nintendo Switch on December 7th. Nintendo will release a limited edition Switch console that’s Smash Bros. themed on November 2nd. Alongside it, the new Smash Bros. Ultimate Gamecube controller and adapter will also come out.
