Shadow of the Tomb Raider Review Roundup

Get ready to raid because Shadow of the Tomb Raider is finally out. It’s the last installment in the modern reboot of the series that’s been around for over 20 years. The review embargo lifted on Tuesday and the Metacritic score is at 78. Here are just some of the reviews out there:

EGM

“As what may be the last hoorah for this particular story arc, Shadow of the Tomb Raider is a stereotypical stealth-action game, but one that manages to separate itself from the pack by excelling in everything that makes this genre what it is.” (Full review here).

Game Revolution

“Its initial focus on Lara’s character and colonialist mentality is surprisingly poignant. But it stumbles in following through on those topics and improving or changing the gameplay loop.” (Full review here).

GameSpot

“Making the journey to Shadow of the Tomb Raider’s peak is certainly an attractive goal, but like the challenging terrain Lara needs to traverse, the path there is getting rougher and more unpredictable.” (Full review here).

IGN

“With a story that manages to satisfactorily tread the line between high-concept fun and grounded character exploration, Shadow of the Tomb Raider meaningfully wraps up the journey Lara began in 2013 and convincingly leaves her in a place resembling where she was when we were first introduced to her more than 20 years ago.” (Full review here).

Twinfinite

“It’s another terrific addition to modern Lara’s adventures, albeit a safe one that doesn’t seem to want to take too many risks outside driving the series’ iconic protagonist through a dark and grisly story.” (Full review here).

Those are just some of the many reviews out there for the game. Are you excited to play Shadow of the Tomb Raider? Like me, will you try to put Marvel’s Spider-Man down to play this? For news regarding Tomb Raider and a ton of other games, keep it locked to VGR.
